Chiropractors are Neuormusculoskeletal specialists who diagnose and treat the joints, muscles and nerves as well as the side-effects of organic disease. Chiropractic treatment can also improve symptoms and effects of common illnesses to improve overall quality of life. Chiropractic is also an important component of rehabilitation from injury or surgery.

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal (MSK) system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.

Chiropractors are extensively educated in the prevention, assessment, diagnosis and management of MSK and associated neurological system conditions and will recommend a course of treatment to help relieve pain and improve function without surgery or pharmaceuticals. Treatment consists of manual chiropractic adjustments, instrument assisted adjustments (i.e. activator), mobilizations, soft tissue therapy, exercise, education, modalities (i.e. ultrasound) and rehabilitation. Chiropractors are also trained to provide nutritional counselling, as well as recommend injury prevention strategies. 

Specific training in spinal manipulative therapy (SMT) allows chiropractors to provide adjustments using highly-skilled and precise movements to the vertebrae of the spine, correcting joint motion to restore proper movement and improve function. Chiropractors will also assess the muscles and movement patterns surrounding the joints.
